The new project to extend Fiumicino airport includes all the architectural, structural and system parts in all its mechanical and electrical components. The area of interest for this project is approximately 132,000 square meters. Specifically, the BIM model planning and management process was developed in collaboration with other operators, adopting cutting-edge information management facilities. In the construction process, La SIA was involved in the modeling of all the systems serving the entire structure, in the design and construction phase, up to the development of the LOD 500 (as-built) models, dividing the work into a series of models related to the part of special systems (CCTV systems, access control systems), electrical systems (general lighting system, evacuation systems and emergency exit signs, elevators, audio-visual systems, fire prevention systems), mechanical systems (M / R air ducts, diffusers, plenums, fire-shutters, winter and summer air-conditioning), special waste disposal systems (aircraft fuel loading and unloading, oily liquid disposal and waste water).

The works concern the positioning and installation of all the sensors needed to carry out the energy monitoring of the building. The building – object of the monitoring plan – is studied in its characteristics of geometric configuration, of envelope, of intended use and of system types, in order to define with sufficient detail the characteristics of the instrumentation to support the monitoring and its positioning in the field.
For the purposes of monitoring of energy consumption, the macro types that have been taken into consideration are:
1. Conditioning (heating / cooling).
2) Lights
3. Power Supply (Lifts – hoists – general loads).
4. Loads connected under the UPS line.
5. Energy stations.
In addition to energy measurements, measurements of the environmental parameters were carried out to detect the temperature, the percentage of humidity present in the air and the level of light intensity in some rooms taken as samples of the building itself.
The monitoring system was based on a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) architecture system, a 2.4 ZigBee radio protocol with products compliant with Telecom Specifications.

The type of technology used was provided by KERBEROS and the devices required for monitoring are listed below:
1. GATEWAY: KET-GZE-100 device that connects the Zig-Bee network to the Telecom Italia WSN interface management platform .
2. BRIDGE: KET-RMB-201.203 [5M] modbus wireless device and router in Zig Bee technology with the possibility of managing up to five slave devices connected to its RS 485 port, suitable for mounting on an electrical panel on a DIN rail.
3. POWER METER: KET-PMT-200 [6M] three-phase network analyzer capable of supplying all the following electrical quantities: Vrms, Irms, Watts, Var, Va, Frequency, Cosφ, Active Energy
4. 15VA TRANSFORMER: KET- PMA-100.230 [3M] supplies a secondary voltage of 19Vac which can be powered at 230V, protection is guaranteed by a thermo-fuse; it is also possible to use a 25VA transformer which takes up more modules on a DIN rail.
5. TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY AND LIGHT SENSOR: KET-THL-100 battery-powered device which uses a digital sensor for room temperature and relative humidity together with an integrated light sensor to perform a complete environmental monitoring.
6. WIRELESS PULSECOUNT DEVICE: KET-MES-200 [5M] device that connects to the standard ES interface of the electricity meters and counts the relative pulses of energy consumed and transferred to the electricity network. ROUTER: KET-RMB-300

Impianti di videosorvelianza - La SIA Ingegneria

The projects illustrated concern the countermeasures envisaged for the improvement of the physical security standards of the sites of Leonardo SpA, an international industrial group active in the Aerospace, Defense and Security sectors. These sites are of strategic importance for the information contained within them and require specific design attention.
The project proposals include access control systems for the areas, intrusion detection systems for outdoors and indoors and video surveillance systems. In addition to these systems, a networking system has been set up exclusively for the security systems to convey the video streams of the cameras, alarms and reports of the various subsystems to the control platform.

Obtaining the Fire Prevention Certificate relating to the activities listed below – subject to control by the Fire Department of Rome – and for the offices of Telecom Italia SPA in Via di Valcannuta 182 in Rome involved a building with a total surface area of 38,797.87 square meters, in particular:
• 1 garage consisting of 2 compartments, with surface area greater than 3000sqm
• 5 paper and carton deposits present in the basement
• 1 professional kitchen room with a thermal capacity of 246.8 kW
• rooms for office use, with over 800 people present

The activities carried out were:
• Recovery and verification of the existing documentation from the client and from the Fire department command;
• Verification of places and identification of the activities subject to the D.P.R. August 1, 2011, N 151;
• Verification of the location of the establishment in consideration of the surrounding or neighboring activities;
• Verification of external, internal , protection and respect safety distances, as well as accessibility to emergency vehicles;
• Identifying legislations, laws and regulations of reference and applicable to individuals;
• Fire prevention technical planning
• Instruction for the application for the Declaration of Compliance and the SCIA procedure for obtaining CPI;
• Performance tests to identify malfunctions or deficiencies;
• Works management for correct implementation of the planned work.

From the survey carried out along with the original project drawings it was possible to reconstruct the current status of the fire-fighting system of the Telecom building. Although not directly observable, hypotheses have been made on the diameters and the paths of the pipes, derived from the “logic” of the original project.
From the measurements made with the pressure and flow meter it was possible to deduce the required pressure and flow rate at the point of delivery of the aqueduct to guarantee the same performances detected.
The main characteristics of the fire-fighting water network have been reconstructed with the CPIwin software.
For the identification of the elements of the network we proceeded to the numbering of the nodes and the sides of the sections.
The Hardy-Cross iterative method was used to determine the hydraulic quantities of the mesh net.
The project of the elaborate water system was necessary to verify the possibility of connecting new UNI 45 hydrants foreseen in the garage, and to propose some improvements to the existing plant that theoretically allow to meet the requirements of the UNI 10779 standard for all areas of the building.

Energy saving Bersaglio


Design and supervision of works for system interventions, related to the re-engineering aimed at energy efficiency and the modernization of the Telecom HQ located in Milan, Via Plana 38. The key actions implemented are:

  • Secondary circuit at variable flow
  • PLC for the hydronic management of the plant
  • New hydronic distribution of a part of the circuit
  • Direct free cooling of the rooms
  • Rephasing of secondary pumping groups
  • Evaluation of replacement of refrigeration units and precision CDZs
  • Evaluation of optimization of aeraulic distributions

Design and management of works for the plant adaptation works necessary for the preparation of a new equipment room called Room ELA-0 and Room ELA-1 to be built on the ground floor of the Telecom building located in Via Macchia Palocco – Acilia (RM).
The activity concerns the realization of a cooling system by means of the installation of “CDZ” environments of the chilled water type with bottom outlet, dedicated exclusively to the cooling of the room equipment.
The new ELA-0 room will be equipped with an automatic Aerosol fire extinguishing system connected to the fire detection system.
