The Civil & Design Business Unit is dedicated to the architectural, structural and plant design of complex and strategic buildings such as large housing estates, hospitals, barracks, data centers, shopping malls and stadiums. Constant investment in advanced precision and reliability technologies enables us to ensure high quality and sustainable projects.
We offer aesthetic and functional solutions for buildings of different types, meeting customers’ needs with high-quality designs. Our expertise in structural design allows us to adopt innovative solutions, supported by advanced design software, to combine the requirements of meeting new regulations with the goal of implementing solutions that reduce the economic impact on structures, ensuring safe and durable buildings.
We design efficient and sustainable systems, improving comfort and energy efficiency in buildings. We use laser scanners and drones for detailed and accurate surveys, gathering data quickly for solid design. Our Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology integrates all project phases from design to construction and operational management, reducing costs and improving efficiency. Our team of qualified professionals receive continuous training to keep skills up-to-date and tackle complex projects with confidence. Committed to sustainability and energy efficiency, we participate in R&D projects to develop innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact and improve quality of life.
In the Civil & Design Business Unit, management and planning play a crucial role in ensuring the success of each project. Through Design Management, we ensure that each stage of design meets quality standards and customer requirements. Project management coordinates all activities, monitoring each phase to ensure design is on time and on budget.
The expertise developed in various sectors, from industry to telecommunications to energy and roads, has enabled us to create a heterogeneous work team capable of integrating the various phases of design, from concept to final and executive design, guaranteeing the final client compliance with the expected quality, time and budgeted costs. We offer tailor-made solutions adapted to every need.
Embracing integrated design, alongside construction companies, is only possible by having a team of project managers working across disciplines, managing and governing the different needs of those involved but always holding firm to the end result of the target to be achieved dictated by the client.
The multidisciplinary approach allows us to always propose innovative solutions aligned with market needs. In the construction phase, we support the client in the services of safety coordination, construction management and testing, ensuring compliance with deadlines, construction quality and current regulations. Our team, consisting of construction managers, site managers, site inspectors, operations managers and specialists in various disciplines, is capable of managing complex construction sites thanks to the experience gained during our 20 years of growth.
The project involved the construction of a technology hub to house the operations center of the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (IMRCC) of the General Command of the Port Authority Corps-Coast Guard. In addition to space for the operations center, there was a need to create office space for support.
The requirement for such spaces is to accommodate about 20 units on a routine basis, but with appropriate redundancy to allow for adequate response capacity should emergency situations arise to be handled.
St. Benedict’s Hospital in Alatri, built in 1978 on an area of 33,500 square meters, consists of six reinforced concrete building bodies designed according to the seismic standards of the time. However, recent analyses have revealed deficiencies in its ability to withstand earthquakes according to current standards.
La SIA was commissioned to assess seismic vulnerability and design consolidation works, which included the installation of advanced seismic isolation systems and modern engineering techniques. The main challenge was to carry out the work without disrupting the hospital’s operations.
The Calatrava Sail project presented a stimulating challenge for our team. In the Scan to Bim phase, we applied our technological expertise to transform the survey data into a detailed virtual representation of the structure and its 46 hectares of land.
This digital model provided an essential basis for the future maintenance and development of the site. Because of the complexity and extent of the work, the model was divided into separate blocks, preceded by a preliminary study to characterize the individual elements that make up the federated model.
In the Business Units, we use cutting-edge design technologies that revolutionize every stage of the project, from initial conception to final implementation.
Immersive visualization models are one of our strengths. These models provide a detailed and realistic representation of project developments, enabling more effective collaboration and greater transparency. Clients can view projects as if they were already completed, improving approval and overall satisfaction. This not only facilitates the understanding of design details, but also allows for the identification and resolution of any issues prior to actual construction.
Data visualization is another key element of our technology approach. Through intuitive graphical representations, we make complex data easy to understand, facilitating analysis and communication among all project stakeholders. Information Technologies (IT) support the technology infrastructure, ensuring security, reliability and business continuity.
With these technologies, we are able to offer innovative and high-quality solutions, while always maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and efficiency. The combination of AR/VR, BI, digital implementation, data visualization, IT, and immersive visualization models allows us to lead the industry and pursue complex projects with an unparalleled level of precision and expertise.
Participating in design competitions is one of the goals we have set to internally stimulate the creativity and ingenuity of our resources, a time for business growth in the procurement group with the goal of meeting the requests of contracting agencies to acquire a project with a different level of depth depending on the individual calls for proposals.
Such competitions are always characterized by the following elements:
Following the judging phase, the Contracting Authority may also reserve the right to entrust the winner with the implementation of all subsequent phases of the project, from construction management to design and construction safety coordination.
