Learn how European Union program helps upgrade buildings for a greener, more resilient future
EUROPE COMMITS TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE AND RESILIENT FUTURE
A key element of this strategy is the energy upgrading of buildings, both public and private.
Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Program for Research and Innovation 2021-2027, plays a key role in this process, supporting innovative projects that develop solutions to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and reduce their carbon emissions.
HOW THE PROGRAM IS STRUCTURED
The program has a duration of seven years-corresponding to the EU’s long-term budget-and a total budget of 95.5 billion euros (in current prices), a figure that includes the 5.4 billion earmarked for the recovery plan, Next Generation EU. It is the largest transnational research and innovation program in the world.
Horizon Europe’s calls offer concrete opportunities for public agencies, companies and researchers to participate in this collective effort. Through these calls, the EU makes funding available for the development and implementation of new technologies and solutions for the energy upgrading of buildings.
HORIZON CONTRIBUTES TO THE UPGRADING OF BUILDINGS
Horizon Europe contributes to the development of innovative building materials by supporting research and development of new building materials that are more energy efficient, environmentally friendly and durable. These materials can be used to construct new buildings or to upgrade existing ones.
The project funds projects to develop new technologies to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, such as more efficient heating and cooling systems, high-performance windows, and LED lighting systems, supporting the development of smart building management solutions that can optimize energy consumption and improve occupant comfort.
The plan also focuses on urban redevelopment plans.
